Cake, Cookies, and Conspiracy

Hello, dolls.
Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I'm on vacation, so I'm usually swimming, camping, and roasting marshmallows, not on the computer. I apologize, dearies. I'll be better, pinky promise :)

Anyway, I have somewhere to be in a few minutes, so I'm going to make this short and sweet.

RECOMMENDED BOOK OF THE WEEK:

TO HAVE AND TO KILL by Mary Jane Clark

The description on the back of the book reads:

Piper Donovan never imagined that decorating wedding cakes could be so dangerous! A struggling actress with no immediate prospects and a recently broken engagement, Piper moves back in with her parents to take stock of her life. She steps tentatively into the family bakery business and finds herself agreeing to the wedding cake for the acclaimed star of a daytime television drama. But soon, someone close to the bride-to-be is horribly murdered, and it seems that someone is ruthlessly determined to stop the wedding. With the help of her former neighbor Jack, a handsome FBI agent with a soft spot for the gorgeous cake-maker, Piper moves closer to the truth. And as she narrows in on a suspect, she realizes it's hotter in the kitchen than she may be able to handle....

You WILL like this book if you:

*Wish to be able to snack your way through 300 pages without feeling guilty
* Enjoy baking AND murder, simultaneously
*Watch the show Cake Boss

You WILL NOT like this book if you:

*Are on a diet

Well, that's all for now!
Thanks for listening, kitties ;)

My Pocketful of Sunshine

"Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers." ~Charles W. Eliot

Hello my darlings.
I'm very sorry for not posting in a while, but I have been busy, busy, busy! (And lazy, lazy, lazy.)
But now I am here to make it up to you.
As I think most of you know, one of the greatest delights of my life is reading.
I need books to live.

"Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing." ~Harper Lee

Reading is like breathing to me. Even when I'm in the darkest point in my life, when it feels like I have no one, books are always there.

"The walls of books around her, dense with the past, formed a kind of insulation against the present world and its disasters" ~Ross MacDonald

As long as I am living, I will read. And I will pass this love of reading to my children, and their children, and their children's children. Someday when I have kids, they will NOT have a Facebook, a Twitter, or a MySpace. They will NOT have cell phones or video game systems. I will not allow them these things. However, I will provide for them as many books as their hearts could possibly desire. I will buy them bookshelves that touch the sky, if need be.

"The smallest bookstore still contains more ideas of worth than have been presented in the entire history of television." ~Andrew Ross

So, now you might be wondering what the point is of me telling you this. Well, lately I have been addicted to a certain website called....
FIGMENT.COM
Perhaps you've heard of it? If you haven't.... go to it. Right now. I'll still be here. I'll wait. GO. NOW! Now!

Good, you're back. Did you get a chance to soak up the awesomeness that is Figment.com? Well, welcome to your new obsession. :) Anyway, this is basically what my daily schedule consists of:

Wake up. Check Figment notifications.
Eat breakfast. Check for updates on the Figment blog.
Read whatever book I'm reading that week. Eat lunch. Talk around on the Figment forums.
Read more. Explore the Figment library.
Dinner. Read the featured Figment stories of the day.
Shower. Read more Figment stories & check notifications again.
Go to sleep and dream of Figment <3

Now, Figment does this thing on their blog called the Reccomended Book of the Week.
And I have discovered SO many good books from it! They also regularly feature authors they like, and stories/poems that have been submitted to them.
So, I don't know how many people read my blog anymore, but pay attention because this is important......
I'm going to start doing the same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From now on, Serena is opening this blog to BOOKS!
Every week I will feature a new book I like and think you would like to,
Every couple weeks or whenever I can, I will feature an author,
and EVERY SINGLE DAY, I will check my email (serenaleclair@gmail.com) for messages from YOU. Any of you! If there are any people out there who like to write (stories, poems, ANTHING) then just shoot me an email, and I will feature YOUR writing on this blog for everyone to see! No if's, and's, or but's! I don't care if your story is Pulitzer prize worthy, or written by your 4 year old sister. If you send it to me, it WILL be published to this blog! :) And don't worry about copyrights, all the work published here belongs to you, and no one else. You wrote it, you get the credit, of course :)

So what are you waiting for! Send me your writing!
serenaleclair@gmail.com
GO GO GO!!!!!!!
And remember,

"Except a living man there is nothing more wonderful than a book! A message to us from the dead, - from human souls whom we never saw, who lived perhaps thousands of miles away; and yet these, on those little sheets of paper, speak to us, teach us, comfort us, open their hearts to us as brothers." ~Charles Kingsley

And THAT, dear friends, is my Pocketful of Sunshine. <3

xoxoxo,
Serena

Fabulously British

Hello my darlings.
Now, I don't know about you, but I'm under some MAJOR stress right now. With finals and everything.
Is it just me, or does it seem like teachers all congregate at the end of the school year just to give us all more work and make out lives a living H-E-doublehockeysticks?
UGH. It's enough to make a girl wanna pull her hair out!
So, in light of the current stress that is weighing down on my shoulders like my 20 pound backpack, I'm going to treat you all to a lighthearted post.
Girls.... let's talk fashion.
*Chorus of squeals and air clapping in the background*
Thank you, thank you. Hold your applause.
;)
Okay, let me ask you this. Where do you girls like to shop?
Most girls our age would say Forever 21, H&M, Abercrombie, Hollister, the cliche`s. Maybe some of you are even lucky enough to afford the big-time designers. OR maybe some of you (*cough cough ME cough cough*) prefer the cozy, affordable, family-friendly vibe of Target. :)
Either way, facts are facts. We all need clothes.
Now, I hate to generalize, but most girls enjoy being able to pick and choose what clothes they like, determine their own style, and express themselves through what they put on their bodies.
So, now I ask you... where do you get your inspiration? Fashion magazines? The celebrities? Other girls your age?
Well, let me tell you something, little rascals.
Maybe you should try looking a little B R O A D E R .
And by that I mean... Internationally!
Now, introducing... Jack Wills!!! The ultimate teen clothing designer who happens to also be fabulously British (That's his motto, BTW.) Now, I know that not many people are fortunate enough to afford his stuff (300$ jeans?? really?) I know I certainly can't afford it. But, it's fun to look at some of his pieces, and figure out how to recreate them for less!
Just go to www.jackwills.com and check out his stuff. Then, pick a look you like. He has all kinds of stuff from modern to vintage to indie to girly to classic. You can even click on the "Get the Look" button and it will tell you exactly what clothes are in a selected outfit! Then, scoot your little selves on down to the nearest clothing store within your budget, and put on your creative caps! Trust me, it's not impossible to have a totally cute outfit just like the chic designer ones for half the price!
This is all part of my Redefining Beautiful movement, ladies. Remember? I personally think that labels are overrated. Sure, its fun to have a few designer pieces (what girl doesn't like to feel glamorous?) but you shouldn't let fancy clothes define who you are. If you are comfortable in what you are wearing, and comfortable in your own skin, then you can rock ANY look. Because you are all gorgeous. Inside and out. You better believe it.
Well, that's all for now! Sorry for the short post, but I'm going swimming. Time to get a head start on that summer tan! ;)
It's been a pleasure talking with you girls. I hope you do well on your final exams (if you have them) and your school year finishes strong! Keep moving forward!
xoxo,
Serena

You are the sun in my sky

To all of my beautiful, wonderful, magical, fantastic followers and beyond,
I love you SO much. How can I ever thank you all for your uplifting comments on my last post? You not only helped me finalize my decision to KEEP this blog, but you also helped me realize that when the going gets tough, I shouldn't just give up. Special Shout Outs go to Cat :D, Memi, Devin, Tiffany, and Romi. You girls are so special to me, and I appreciate you SO much.
I'm sorry I ever considered deleting this blog. Part of it was the fact that I had been deserted by a lot of people in my personal life recently and I just felt really alone. But you ladies picked me up by my bootstraps, dusted me off, and sent me on my way again, and for that I thank you. I could never delete this blog, because each and every one of you means the world and back to me.

Up to You

Does anyone read this blog?

I started this because I wanted to post things that would make people happy, and maybe make a few friends along the way.

But lately it seems like no one really cares.

And that's okay... but now its up to you guys.

If you want me to keep this blog up, then I will. But if not, then ill delete it.

xoxo
Serena

P.S Im not trying to be all melodramatic and annoying, and its not that I don't love you guys. I just have a lot of other stuff in my life that I could be worrying about, and if no one is enjoying this blog in the first place, then its pointless to waste my time, and yours.

Y'all can choose.
