"Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers." ~Charles W. Eliot
Hello my darlings.
I'm very sorry for not posting in a while, but I have been busy, busy, busy! (And lazy, lazy, lazy.)
But now I am here to make it up to you.
As I think most of you know, one of the greatest delights of my life is reading.
I need books to live.
"Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing." ~Harper Lee
Reading is like breathing to me. Even when I'm in the darkest point in my life, when it feels like I have no one, books are always there.
"The walls of books around her, dense with the past, formed a kind of insulation against the present world and its disasters" ~Ross MacDonald
As long as I am living, I will read. And I will pass this love of reading to my children, and their children, and their children's children. Someday when I have kids, they will NOT have a Facebook, a Twitter, or a MySpace. They will NOT have cell phones or video game systems. I will not allow them these things. However, I will provide for them as many books as their hearts could possibly desire. I will buy them bookshelves that touch the sky, if need be.
"The smallest bookstore still contains more ideas of worth than have been presented in the entire history of television." ~Andrew Ross
So, now you might be wondering what the point is of me telling you this. Well, lately I have been addicted to a certain website called....
FIGMENT.COM
Perhaps you've heard of it? If you haven't.... go to it. Right now. I'll still be here. I'll wait. GO. NOW! Now!
Good, you're back. Did you get a chance to soak up the awesomeness that is Figment.com? Well, welcome to your new obsession. :) Anyway, this is basically what my daily schedule consists of:
Wake up. Check Figment notifications.
Eat breakfast. Check for updates on the Figment blog.
Read whatever book I'm reading that week. Eat lunch. Talk around on the Figment forums.
Read more. Explore the Figment library.
Dinner. Read the featured Figment stories of the day.
Shower. Read more Figment stories & check notifications again.
Go to sleep and dream of Figment <3
Now, Figment does this thing on their blog called the Reccomended Book of the Week.
And I have discovered SO many good books from it! They also regularly feature authors they like, and stories/poems that have been submitted to them.
So, I don't know how many people read my blog anymore, but pay attention because this is important......
I'm going to start doing the same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From now on, Serena is opening this blog to BOOKS!
Every week I will feature a new book I like and think you would like to,
Every couple weeks or whenever I can, I will feature an author,
and EVERY SINGLE DAY, I will check my email (serenaleclair@gmail.com) for messages from YOU. Any of you! If there are any people out there who like to write (stories, poems, ANTHING) then just shoot me an email, and I will feature YOUR writing on this blog for everyone to see! No if's, and's, or but's! I don't care if your story is Pulitzer prize worthy, or written by your 4 year old sister. If you send it to me, it WILL be published to this blog! :) And don't worry about copyrights, all the work published here belongs to you, and no one else. You wrote it, you get the credit, of course :)
So what are you waiting for! Send me your writing!
serenaleclair@gmail.com
GO GO GO!!!!!!!
And remember,
"Except a living man there is nothing more wonderful than a book! A message to us from the dead, - from human souls whom we never saw, who lived perhaps thousands of miles away; and yet these, on those little sheets of paper, speak to us, teach us, comfort us, open their hearts to us as brothers." ~Charles Kingsley
And THAT, dear friends, is my Pocketful of Sunshine. <3
xoxoxo,
Serena
